Tutor Tips

Here are a few tips that will make your tutoring experience more successful.

  1. Reply to requests as soon as possible.
  2. Many students wait until they really need someone before they begin to look for a tutor. Even if you aren't available, be sure to reply to a request as soon as you can so that the student can look for someone else. Remember, the student sees you as a representative of our business. If you look good, we look good and this means more working hours for you!

  3. Help yourself by doing your own advertising.
  4. The more people who know about our business, the more requests for tutors we'll get. Word of mouth is a powerful tool. Tell your friends, teachers, co-workers and anyone else you meet!

  5. Have a list of references and phone numbers available for students.
  6. Even if you haven't tutored before, have a list of people who know you well enough to recommend you as a reliable tutor. This list could include teachers, employers, neighbors, ministers and co-workers.

  7. Set clear expectations before you begin.
  8. Good tutors know from experience that a student needs to understand what to expect in advance. First, it is helpful to set a short timeline of a few hours or a few weeks so that you and the student can reassess as you go along. Be clear on your expectations as a teacher as well. Do you tolerate lateness, cancellations or incomplete homework? Furthermore, it is easier to discuss payment in advance so both you and the student know what to expect. Some tutors like payment in advance as this may assure a student's attendance. Others are more flexible depending on the situation. Do what works for you but be sure that the student knows your preferences.

  9. Give us your feedback.
  10. We are doing our best to serve you and connect you with students. If there are other ways we can help, please let us know as we value you as a tutor and customer.
